Jeanie Roth

Jeanie Marie Roth (nee Gerhart), born in Sandusky, Ohio, May 22, 1942, died early Saturday morning in her home. At her bedside were her six children and several adult grandchildren. She is survived by her twin sister Joan Magnuson; her son Richard, wife Linda, children Alison and Paul; her son James, wife Catherine, sons Robert, Douglas (deceased), Nicholas, Charles, and Philip; her daughter Marie Houghtling, husband Eric, children John Paul, Mark, Erin, and Julia; her daughter Kathryn Smith, husband Brian, children Angela and Matthew; her son Peter, wife Olivia; her son David, wife Kathleen, children Bridget, Patrick, and Seamus; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends of her children who knew her as a second mother.

In Paradise she is reunited with Paul, her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, as well as her grandson Douglas, her parents Joseph and Jane, her brother Greg, and her sisters Betty, Kathleen, Chum, and Frances.

She lived a deep Catholic faith, guided by an innocent spirit, generosity, and prayer. The West Park home she and Paul shared was always packed with the laughter and banter of their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who knew to just come in; only the uninitiated would ever ring the doorbell. She will forever be known with affection as Mrs. Roth by the hundreds of students whose lives were touched in her twenty-five years with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, particularly at Scranton Elementary.

Visitation will be at DONLON FUNERAL HOME 15408 TRISKETT RD. CLEVELAND, OH 44111, Wednesday from 4:00-7:00. Funeral mass at Our Lady of Angels Church, Thursday at 1:00pm. Interment at Alger Cemetery. Donations can be made in Jeanie’s memory to Our Lady of Angels Parish, St. Mel Parish, or the Poor Clare Colettine Nuns of Ohio.
